At the Green Party Convention this year it was "agreed upon" that David Cobb would run as our canidate for president. Many greens feel what the Green Party did was wrong and that Cobb should not have been nominated. I too beleave that Cobb should not have been nominated but not because he doesn't deserve it, the reason is much more complex. The fact of the matter is that Republicans and Democrates rule and as of right now we can't really do much but try and get our view noticed. This election in particular is a very very crucial one and many things are at stake. We all know Bush has to go, thats a given, but how in the world do we expect to do this when we have Kerry, Cobb, and Nader to chose from? This election is bigger then Democrates, Greens, Republicans, and all of that. This election is bigger then that. Nader is a strong canidate that for some reason decided to run on his own. Now, we can ether be babys and cry about it and elect our own canadate or we can try and help our contry by getting our view heard rather then the Green name by supporting Nader. The issue is this, If we have 2 people with our views out there, that only devides our votes and gives us less of a chance to make a stand. Also, not only will Nader and Cobb take votes from eachother but they'll take votes from Kerry as well and I sure as hell don't want Bush around for the next 4 years. Bottom line is, the green party needs to get its head out of its ass and support Nader.

Gabe, I'm honestly trying to understand your point of view and your logic. I really do want to understand but your argument seems to refute itself. Please explain how if a vote for Nader will guarentee a Bush election, you should get behind Nader.

Re: Election 2004!
Wed, September 1, 2004 - 11:14 PMThats not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is theres 2 people with basicly the same ideas (Nader and Cobb) and THAT is what will bring down votes for both Kerry AND Nader. This is why I beleave the green party needs to pull there head out of there asses and push for Nader.

Sat, September 4, 2004 - 3:40 AMAm I to understand that you believe a Nadar candidacy and backing by the Greens is going to defeat Bush?

Re: Election 2004!
Sun, September 5, 2004 - 3:06 AMOk your obviously not catching my drift here. Its quiet obvious Nader nor Cobb can defeat Bush or Kerry. The point of haveing one of those canidates run is to get the views of our party out there and those of many other Independents and hell even some democrates and republicans. Its never been about trying to win the seat, that ain't happening just yet.

Re: Election 2004!
Mon, September 6, 2004 - 4:06 AMNo I got that point pretty clearly, Gabe. I just don't understand why you'd be willing to put up with another four yers of Bush as a result of making that point that. It's a point most people on the left get anyway and most people don't think that guaranteeing a fascist regime is a sensible price to pay to make that point. Most people SO got that point last time when Nadar's entry got Bush elected, that they were willing to put up with a so so candidate like Kerry. Your way of making a point is a lot like a temper tantrum in which you break everything around you. Aybody who thinks that it doesn't matter who gets elected, Bush or Kerry, is cluless about how the government works. You really want the GOP controlling every committee when Georgie initiates all that anti-Green legislation? Then there are the federal court appointments. Okay you make your point and next year the state parks are over run by snow mobiles and four wheelers and privitzed so Haliburton Burgers can be sold in new "Nature Malls." Alaska starts pumping oil all over the ice cap and national park forests are harvested for lumber to build wasp suburbs. But your point will have been made.

Re: Election 2004!
Tue, September 7, 2004 - 7:07 PMI'm not willing to put up with another 4 years and this is why I think its stupid and pointless to have 2 canadtes with the same view (Nader/Cobb). Your point of view is the exact reason why true librals don't get elected often. You chose to pick from the lesser of two evils and if thats what you want to do then so be it, hell I'm going to do it this time around by voteing for Kerry. The point Nader voteing is so he brings up issues the everyone else is scared to even hint toward therefor making people curious and more aware of shit going around in this world. It's like the Band NoFX says, "Regester Green and vote Democrate". Once we get the big numbers on our side we can fight back. -

Re: Election 2004!
Sat, September 18, 2004 - 9:07 PMWhy don't we just do this.
Let's all make sure that all the Greens and all the Independants vote for Kerry this year. Sure we don't support everything about that Democrat but the alternative is worse if that Republican wins again.
What we need to do as Independants and Greens is to vote the little guys into thier positions in the legislature and house. Eventually, our parties will get large enough to have a President some day. What's more pressing is to get Bush out today so he doesn't do anymore damage to our economy and our kids!! We all need to band together with the Democrats this one time inorder to accomplish this. If we go spreading our votes to Cobb and Nadar than Bush for sure will be in office for another 4 years. He might even try to abolish our parties if he gets a chance next. Look what he has done to our Constitution. It's very important to us and all that we make sure Bush will not be re-elected. Our only option is to vote for Kerry and Edwards. We would be sliting our own throats if we do otherwise.
